Blog 2: Design

I designed my blog for a happy, bold, and informal feel. From the article, "Establish A Mood With Typography" it states, "Font selections can feel formal or informal, light or dramatic, modern or traditional and warm or cool." I created the font of my blog with the mindset of informal. I didn't want my blog to seem formal or traditional, so I went for more of an informal, modern feel. Also from the article, "Establish A Mood With Typography" it says, "Look for a font with average width strokes and lines – stay away from super thin or thick letter forms – to ensure readability." With that in mind, I chose the "Coming Soon" font because it was legible and it wasn't too thick or too thin to the point where it was not readable. I made my background tye dye because I wanted the mood to be bold, fun, and exciting. From "Establish A Mood With Typography" it says, "Make sure to use “super moody,” bold choices with strong images that help convey a message if the type falls short." I used a "super moody" image of tye dye to make the mood stand out more.

I chose tye dye as my color because I didn't want just one color. I didn't want people to feel just one emotion when they see just a single color. In the article "Color Psychology", it says, "Colors also have different meanings in different cultures." Since colors mean different things to different people, I did not want just one color because that could mean many different things to different people. The article, "Color Psychology" says, "Colors in the red area of the color spectrum are known as warm colors and include red, orange and yellow. These warm colors evoke emotions ranging from feelings of warmth and comfort to feelings of anger and hostility." So I wanted to add some red in my blog because it has feelings of warmth and comfort. The article also says, "Colors on the blue side of the spectrum are known as cool colors and include blue, purple and green. These colors are often described as calm, but can also call to mind feelings of sadness or indifference." Since red colors create warm and comfort feelings and blue colors creates calm feelings, I wanted a combination of both.
